Ubisoft and Massive announce the development of an open world Star Wars

di Valentina Carparelli P 13 gen 2021 14:55
Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games announced today that Swedish studio Massive Entertainment (The Division) is working on a new game dedicated to the immense world of Star Wars and that this will be an open world story-driven title. For the first time in a long time (children's productions aside), EA will not produce a Star Wars title. However, it should be noted that EA may continue to create games in the future on this sci-fi world, but Lucasfilm Games is free to look for other partners. However, returning to the product in question, according to the statements that have emerged on the net, the development of this new title is still in its infancy, so unfortunately the details are currently in short supply.

Julian Gerighty, director of The Division 2 and The Crew, is known to serve as creative director of the game and the title will use massive's engine. Beyond that, Lucasfilm Games has revealed nothing about the characters or gameplay within the universe of this new Star Wars product.

"A single plot-based game can take dozens of hours. An open-world game, like this one Ubisoft is making with Lucasfilm Games, can potentially push hundreds of hours depending on how long a player wants to explore the game map," explained Sean Shoptaw, the vice president of Global Games ..

"The Star Wars galaxy is an extraordinary source of motivation for our teams that manages to innovate and push the boundaries of our ideas. Building new worlds, characters, and stories that will become enduring parts of the Star Wars tradition is an incredible opportunity for us, and we're excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure, unlike anything there has been so far." These are the words of Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot.

Just like with previous EA games, all new Star Wars games will be part of the same Star Wars world, they will be connected to all movies and TV shows produced after disney's acquisition, however Disney will leave the option to propose its own ideas for stories.

We await more details about the product.
