Sony announced today that the 5.50 update of PS4 , so far available only in beta, it was issued to all owners of the console. The first time with the console connected to PSN will then proposed the download and installation of the update. The update introduces some new customization features and time management game of children, in addition to the much anticipated PS4 supersampling Pro option.

Here are all the details on what's new from the update:

Managing playing time

With the system software update ver. 5.00 introduces a number of improvements relating to parental controls that allow administrators to easily control content family that children view and look at and those with whom they play.

Time management Game continues on this path, giving administrators of the family (and adult components of the family referred to as guardians) the ability to set limits on the times and duration of the sessions of kids playing. Manage the time of game is simple: from PS4, go to settings > Manage family, or sign in to the PlayStation Network account principally as a family member on call from the Web browser on your PC or smartphone, to control and manage time of your child's daily play.

While playing, children receive notifications that inform them when it's time to save and exit. Members of the family/caretakers can also set the PS4 to execute the disconnect after the time of the game session, in addition to decrease or increase the playing time at any time via the Web portal.

Importing custom backgrounds via USB

By popular demand, you can now import your pictures via USB and use it as a custom background on PS4. Once imported, you can also zoom, crop and perform spot previewing of images to give your dashboard the perfect look. In order to be recognized by PS4, the image files on the USB stick must be located in a folder called "IMAGES". Go to settings > Themes > select theme > select image > > Custom USB storage device.

Once upgraded to ver. 5.50, you will also be able to customize your team's tournament page with the logo of your team or your background that you can import from a USB stick. To set your logo and your own background, go to Events > > > edit profile select your team Team team.

User interface improvements in the collection

  • "This PS4" and Name/Avatar

Added two new tabs to the collection so you can more easily view the applications installed and purchased. "This PS4" includes all the applications installed on the PS4, while the card with your name/avatar view purchased apps with your PSN ID. This feature also allows you to search for and find easily the games you've purchased but not yet installed.

  • PS Plus Card

This update adds a new tab collection PS Plus indicating monthly PS Plus game titles including six in possession. If your PS Plus subscription has expired, next to the titles you can play if you renew your subscription Plus a lock icon is displayed.

  • Hiding apps

As requested by users, we are adding a feature that allows you to hide certain applications in the "purchase" of the collection. In "options", you can hide content such as beta, trial or demo of headings that you may no longer need access.

Improvements to the Quick Menu

With the release of ver. 5.50 you will be able to access custom friends lists directly from the Shortcut Menu. This allows you to more easily see who's online and send messages and invitations, especially during the game.

While you listen to music on PS4, you will have access to certain shortcut options from the Shortcut Menu. If you use Spotify on PlayStation Music, the "square" button will give you access to the volume control. If you are using the media player or the USB music player, press the "triangle" will allow you to play or pause a song, while press "square" you can control the volume.

Update notifications

Users will be able to permanently remove the old notifications from PS4 to facilitate organizational and management operations. Go to notifications and press the "triangle" or "OPTIONS" to open a menu that lets you select one or more notifications you'd like to delete.

Background music on PlayStation Now

The background music option on PS Now lets you listen to your favorite tunes while you play streamed to a PlayStation title Now. However, please remember that, as happens when you play with a title on a disc or via digital download on PS4, some titles may not enable the music in the background.

Sampling mode on PS4 Pro

PS4 Pro users selected for beta will display in the settings the new "Super Mode" which allows owners of HDTVS (i.e. with a resolution not greater than 1080 p) to get the best viewing experience when playing some PS4 games.

Sampling mode renders some games at higher resolution, and then zoom out to make it equivalent to that of HD TV, allowing owners of PS4 Pro to get clearer images even if the PS4 Pro is not connected to a 4 k TV. Remember that performance can vary, because the games are optimized in different ways to harness the power of PS4 Pro.
