Sony explains the absence of Blu-ray 4 k on PS4 Pro and Slim: the future is streaming

One of the most controversial aspects of the recent announcement of PlayStation 4 Slim and Pro has been the absence of a reader Blu-ray UltraHD on both models of consoles, despite the strong emphasis placed by Sony on 4 k and HDR. Now the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House explained to the British newspaper The Guardian the reason for this choice.

House explained that, while the physical media are still very important in the world of video games, as far as the movie public attention is shifting increasingly on streaming services like Netflix and YouTube in 4 k, and it is on these that Sony tip.

Then to PlayStation the only way to enjoy movies in 4 k will be via streaming services, or by purchasing a Blu-ray player UltraHD separated. There is, however, to say that the streaming services are still strong disadvantages compared to disk media: first there is the factor of quality, determined by the quality of users ' bandwidth and it still does not reach the levels of the Blu-ray even with a fast connection. Then there is the factor "catalogue": Netflix has very few movies recently release, and even if this situation would improve, however will not have anyway to catalog all the films released in cinemas. So those who want to see in 4 k movies recently release, will not necessarily be forced to resort to a second reader, or perhaps doing more subscriptions to several 4 k streaming services that include all the movies, if there are any.

Definitely a controversial topic: what do you think?
