CONTROL Resonant: a new dev diary shows us the Manhattan of the game

During gamescom LatAm held in São Paulo, Brazil, Remedy Entertainment unveiled new and interesting details about the highly anticipated CONTROL Resonant, the sequel to the award-winning title from the Finnish studio.

The dev diary focuses on the distorted and labyrinthine version of Manhattan that we will visit in the game: for this sequel, in fact, the developers have decided to abandon the isolation and claustrophobic brutalist walls of the Oldest House to throw us into a large explorable city, albeit no less corrupt and intricate than the HQ of the Federal Bureau of Control.

This time we will move in a Manhattan transformed into a geophysical nightmare and bent by an invasive cosmic force, within a metaphysical space that reflects the tormented psyche of the protagonist, Dylan Faden, brother of the protagonist of the first game Jesse. To make the paranormal elements stand out in the best possible way, the team first created a believable and lived-in basic world, avoiding drawing inspiration from other video games and instead looking for references in art exhibitions, film, TV and even nature, so as to offer a fresh and totally unique visual aesthetic.

In CONTROL Resonant we will explore intricate environments where the normal laws of physics and gravity have been completely overturned. We will have a very deep progression system to develop elemental skills and powers out of the ordinary, which we will have to learn to master to survive the threats. In melee clashes we will also be able to unleash the brute force of a shape-shifting weapon called Aberrant. While we will nimbly parkour among the buildings of this corrupted metropolis, we will be able to listen to precious audio diaries without ever having to interrupt the action, and we will use a radio to contact our contact person Zoe, in order to point out all the oddities we will come across.

The situation on the streets is now out of control, and it will not only be the Federal Bureau of Control that will try to maintain order: we will have to deal with different factions that constantly fight for dominance in the various neighborhoods of Manhattan. The bestiary has also been greatly expanded based on the numerous feedbacks received from fans. In addition to the inevitable return of the Hiss and the Mold, we will face completely new and bizarre challenges, even colliding with a real owned bus. Finally, to make the unnatural movements and glitches of the enemies even more realistic and disturbing, the team relied on extremely accurate motion capture sessions.

We leave you to the video, reminding you that CONTROL Resonant is expected to be released by the end of the year.
